Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to the most common questions about Noxidox.

General

What is Noxidox?

Noxidox is an iOS app that lets you analyze and search documents using on-device AI — fast, private, and entirely on your device.

Which file formats are supported?

Noxidox currently supports PDF files. Additional formats are planned and will be available in future updates.

How many documents can I add?

The Free plan allows up to 10 documents across 3 projects. With Pro, there are no limits — add as many documents and projects as you like.

Privacy

Where is my data stored?

All data is stored exclusively on your device. Noxidox processes everything locally — your documents never leave your iPhone.

Does Noxidox send data to the cloud?

No. Noxidox processes all documents entirely on your device. No data is sent to external servers. With Pro, you can optionally enable iCloud sync — your data remains end-to-end encrypted.

What is Apple Intelligence?

Apple Intelligence is Apple's on-device AI framework that runs directly on your iPhone. Noxidox uses this framework for local document analysis — without sending data to the cloud.

Technical

Which iPhone models are compatible?

Noxidox requires an iPhone with Apple Intelligence support. This includes iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and all newer models with the A17 Pro chip or later.

What iOS version is required?

Noxidox requires iOS 26 or later on a compatible iPhone with Apple Intelligence support.

Does Noxidox work offline?

Yes. Since all processing happens on your device, Noxidox works fully offline — no internet connection is needed.

Why does Noxidox sometimes say it can't find information in my document?

Noxidox uses a technique called Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG): it first searches your document for the most relevant passages, then passes those passages to the AI. If the search doesn't retrieve the right passages — for example because your question uses different wording than the document — the AI will correctly report that the provided excerpts don't contain an answer. This is expected behavior, not a bug. Try rephrasing your question using words that are likely to appear in the document itself.

My document uses specialized terms. Can Noxidox still answer questions about it?

Yes, but results improve when your question matches the document's own language. Noxidox uses Apple's on-device language model to find relevant passages. This model understands general English well, but may not recognize highly specialized or proprietary terminology. For example, if a methodology book coins its own terms (like 'appetite' or 'circuit breaker' for a project management concept), asking about 'time boxing' or 'risk management' may not retrieve the right passages. Try asking with the exact terms the document uses.

How can I get better answers from my documents?

A few tips: (1) Use the same terminology the document uses rather than synonyms or paraphrases. (2) Ask specific questions rather than broad ones — 'What is the six-week cycle?' works better than 'What are the key facts?'. (3) If a document covers multiple topics, ask one focused question at a time. (4) Very image-heavy documents (e.g. presentation decks with mostly diagrams) may yield fewer results, as Noxidox analyzes text content.

Why does AI analysis sometimes show a content policy message for certain documents?

Noxidox uses Apple Intelligence — Apple's on-device AI framework — for features like automatic title generation, tag suggestions, and document Q&A. Apple's on-device AI includes built-in safety guidelines that can occasionally decline to process content involving detailed medical dosage data, toxicology information, or substance-related warnings. This is a system-level behaviour of Apple Intelligence and is not specific to Noxidox. It may occur with pharmaceutical package inserts (SmPCs), clinical study reports, or similar professional documents. For title and tag generation, Noxidox automatically falls back to a keyword-based alternative so you always receive a usable result. In the chat interface, try rephrasing your question to focus on the document structure or non-sensitive sections.
